Depression can cast a long shadow over our lives, and it is a complex condition that affects everyone differently. The process of talking things over with a therapist allows you to examine and reflect positively on those areas in life where you are experiencing difficulties. Holistic counselling can help you identify the buried emotions leading to inconsistencies in your reflections or obsessive thoughts, which may keep you stuck in negative patterns of relationships or feelings of depression.
While a visit to the doctor and a prescription for anti-depression medication can be helpful in the short term, this approach to depression treatment won't help you manage the ruminations that often lead to depression. Nor will medication assist you in developing your observing mind, the part where objective solutions and insights to present problems spontaneously arise in therapy. Additionally, medication cannot help you clarify your individual values and how closely your actions align with them.
