Depression can cast a long shadow over our lives, and it is a complex condition which effects everyone differently.
The process of talking things over with a therapist allows you to examine and reflect upon – in a positive way – those areas in life where you are experiencing difficulties. Counselling can help you identify the buried emotions leading to inconsistencies in your reflections or obsessive thoughts which may keep you stuck in negative patterns of relationship, or feelings of depression.
While a visit to the doctor and a prescription for anti-depression medication can be helpful in the short-term, medication itself won't help you manage the ruminations which so often lead to depression. Nor will medication help you develop your observing mind, that part where objective solutions and insights to presenting problems spontaneously arise in therapy. Additionally medication can't help you clarify your individual values and how closely your actions align with them.
Whether you find yourself constantly thinking of past events or if you just need to find a way forward in your personal development, counselling is an important part of any recovery and self-development program.
